Squeaky Clean Blue Ribbon regular Niko Niko's has tasty grilled and fried fish and seafood galore, but my personal favorite is the Greek style fried squid. On the appetizer menu at $7.50, this nicely seasoned calamari comes in a generous basket accompanied by a boring marinara and a reliable tzatziki sauce. (Forget the forgettable marinara and ask for the zesty red cocktail sauce instead.)
It's a perfect blend of crunchy batter and tender squid as good as any in Houston. Add a small Greek salad and make a meal of it. Now it's fried food with a little less guilt, since Niko Niko's has eliminated the use of trans fats in their cooking oils.
