You absolutely cannot go to Matt's El Rancho without ordering Bob Armstrong Dip. This classic has been added to most Mexican restaurants in the Austin area and nothing comes close to the original! I was fortunate enough to meet the REAL Bob Armstrong at Matt's one night and was honored to meet this 80 year-old queso god! A mixture of queso, groud beef and guacamole is sure to make for one happy customer!

The only question you have to ask yourself is: To mix or not to mix! (I'm a NO mixer!)

This dip is the first item on the menu for a reason. You pretty much can't go to Matt's without ordering it. And you pretty much can't live in Austin without going to Matt's. That's just how it is. Cheesy queso with a scoop of quac and a scoop of meat make a great appetizer accompanied best by a frozen margarita with salt. Some people like to mix it all together before dipping. I kinda like to keep the scoops intact and chip away at them with my chip one chunk at a time... and don't forget to dip in the salsa too. It is good, old-fashioned tex-mex comfort food.

Agree! Whenever I'm there, Bob Armstrong dip is usually the second thing on the table, after a basket of chips.
