This pizza is #1 on the menu for a reason. It rocks. When I first heard that a Margherita was tomatoes and cheese with basil, I thought, "how boring." There are many more interesting pizzas on the menu... and I consider myself an adventurous eater. But I have found myself ordering this #1 over and over and... you get the point. It is simply yummy. Simple AND yummy. Ingredients are very fresh and this is my favorite place to order a Margherita by far. Crisp (yet chewy and never dry) crust, flavorful tomato chunks, and fresh cheese are responsible for the great flavor. One thing I like to add myself: artichoke hearts. They make you buy the ingredients all separately when you deviate from the numbered pizzas on the menu, but it is worth it. If you like artichoke hearts, I recommend it. If not, the pizza is great without them too.

P.S. Every once in a while I have to add a little salt to bring out the flavors a little more... but taste test first, it is often sufficiently salted!

What makes this pizza so wonderful is that it seems unassuming but it really wows! This (the #1) and the #6 (sausage, ricotta, and red peppers) are my two favorite pizzas at Home Slice. One thing Home Slice always gets right is the crust, so all of their pizzas have that going for them. The other thing all of their pizzas have going for them is the quality and freshness of ingredients. I believe that is why this pizza wows: fresh basil, tomatoes, garlic, and mozzarella. All are high quality and all come together to make your mouth water for more.

So my pal Swayze tricked me into eating this. Told me it was a solid meat pizza soaked in tequila. Nevermind why I found that appealing on any level. I just did. Anyway, I'm from the North where pizza tends to be 2 inches thick and full of meat. The more meat and cheese you can stuff into a soggy, grease-soaked crust the better. Having 2nd degree burns on your chin after a meal or having to pull over on the way home to throw up is not uncommon. This pizza was thin, crispy and meat and greaseless. Oh, and no effing sauce. This pizza should only cost half as much as other pizzas. Anyway, I ate it. I've eaten it a couple dozen times since. I'm not sure it's pizza but it's good. The great thing about it is that it's so light I can drink more beer (have a Fireman's #4) with it, which is not bad.

    This is a great review!
