Hands down best New York style pizza in the Detroit area. In my experience, folks here in Motown tend to like their pizza thick, square, and piled sky high with toppings. Cibo House Pizza does a respectable deep dish, but if you want to discover the secret location of their collective Italian heart give their traditional round pie a shot. It's just as good as it gets.
The easiest way to say that something is great is to say "it's great" but I can do better than that. A Cibo House Pizza pie is a perfect freehand circle, not too thick, not too thin, with just the right amount of cheese, grease, and crust, and a decent amount of pepperoni. But it's all about the sauce, baby, it's all about the sauce. If I knew what it was about this sauce that made these pizzas so perfectly delicious I wouldn't be writing this review right now-- I'd be holed up in a shotgun shack somewhere lying drowsy and full beside a wood burning stove waiting for the ting of the egg timer to tell me my next pie is ready to devour. Somehow it's slightly spicy, tangy and sweet, and subtly unlike any other pizza sauce I've ever tasted.
Sometimes you need to take a deep breath, clear your head, and get back to basics. Forget the salad and the breadsticks, the buffalo wings, the peach gelato. This is the pizza the Dali Lama would eat, if only he ate pizza. It's made with love and worth going out of your way for.
