Damn straight - we used to go to Fonda simply to order this dish at the bar all the time. So many other things seem overpriced and underwhelming in comparison to this amazing, somewhere around 5 dollar, bowl of amazing. The texture is smooth, and yet not "cream of corn"-y. The melted cheese is in there throughout, as if by magic.

I love this soup, but I resent it a little, too, because I can never bring myself to order any other soup or appetizer when I eat at Fonda San Miguel.

Lord, this soup is perfection in a bowl. Creamy corn, charred rajas of poblano peppers, melty blobs of cheese in the bottom of the bowl, all topped off with crunchy, corny totopos. So simple, rich and wonderful. I've tried to recreate it a million times at home, but it's never, ever as good.
