I love Burger House's vanilla shakes, so when I tried a chocolate shake I was a little disappointed. I think the shake definitely has the right texture/thickness--and you can specify how you want it. I just think they either don't add enough chocolate or the chocolate they use isn't that great. Overall, it was still a good chocolate milkshake, but you can find better. I will go back to ordering their vanilla shakes.

This milkshake starts out good, but the amount of chocolate just isn't right. I typically don't like over-chocolaty shakes though, so I am guessing it might be an overall flavor issue with this one. On a positive note, there is a lot of good body and texture in this shake... I love sucking little chunks of ice cream up the straw and scooping bigger chunks of ice cream from the bottom. That is delicious.

Why did I buy a milkshake at Fry's? I don't know. It was pretty awful. When I watched them make it I got excited because they were using Ghirardelli chocolate syrup. Sounds great, right? Wrong! I think the syrup was the reason I really disliked this shake. It was also too runny for my milkshake taste. On the upside, the employees were very friendly. Order something else from them--like a soda.

Okay, this place was recommended by a few people as the best milkshake in town. Keep in mind, this is a cafe in the middle of an enormous electronics store--not really the place you would imagine yourself drinking a delicious milkshake treat. I had to try it. I give them credit here for quality with generous squirts of Ghirardelli syrup, whole milk and hand-dipped ice cream. I really enjoyed drinking the "frozen liquid chocolate bar" but the flavor was so rich and so sweet, I don't know if I could ever drink an entire cup. Chocoholics must try.

This is a really good chocolate milkshake. It's super-thick and has great chocolate flavor. Instead of milk they use "ice cream mix" which I think is quite interesting. I've never heard of it and can only imagine it borders on being heavy cream, as this shake was a creamy delight. I agree with another review that states this shake is malt-like. Since I love both that doesn't bother me at all.

This is exactly what I think of when I think of a burger-joint milkshake. Rich, creamy, smooth, thick, feels good on the back of the throat, mmmmmm. However, I think the texture really lends itself to a malt more than a milkshake (and yes, there is a big difference). I look forward to ordering my future malts here. If you are a chocolate SHAKE fan, order this shake confidently, but know that it is made with soft serve ice cream, not hand-dipped.

The quaint atmosphere is reason enough to get your milkshake at Nau's. It's a true, old-style establishment and uses original milkshake equipment. My favorite thing about Nau's chocolate milkshake is the fact that I can taste that the Hershey's syrup came out of a can instead of a plastic bottle. Such a wonderful, nostalgic flavor! My second favorite thing is that it's thick. Other favorites: it's super-cold, I can suck it through a straw, and it started with a good grainy texture.

Old-fashioned milkshake perfection. I think this might be the last true, old school soda shop milkshake in town. Nau's--please don't go out of business! The equipment dates to 1951 and that milkshake mixer does a good job. Bluebell ice cream gives it that "sweetened condensed milk" flavor I love in a shake. For serious chocolate lovers, you can pay 50 cents more and get it made with some super-chocolaty ice cream, plus Hershey's syrup. I recommend this shake any day.

This milkshake is one of the best (if not the best) in Austin. I'm usually more of a vanilla milkshake kind of girl, but the chocolate in this shake will make me come back for it. The shake itself was perfectly blended--which to me means grainy with a few chunks. I don't like smooth shakes. And I must say the temperature was perfect, which sounds weird, but you'll understand if you have one. You can also suck it through a straw, which is another important feature for me. A real plus at Dirty's is that you can specify how you want your milkshake (thick, runny, smooth, grainy, etc.). They will do it up right.

Wow, this is a perfect 10. I can't imagine a better shake. Here's what makes it perfect for me: it is very dense (which is different than thick)--there is no frothy air whipped into this one, the Hershey's syrup is right on, it's creamy and smooth, and if you ask for it, they will make it "grainy," which to me is the best feature of a shake. Mixing it quick and very cold creates a little texture where milk freezes tiny chunks of ice cream into little packets of yum. You can HEAR the shake being sucked up through the straw. I want one now.
