hmmmmm, family reunions are what this bruschetta dish makes me think about... roasted red beets get together with their cousins (the golden beets) for a picnic on a lawn of grilled bread with a blanket of soft goat cheese. not completely convinced whether it was intentional or not, but the roasted red beets were sweet from the caramelization, while the golden beets were contrastingly acidic from the vinegar-based marinade. as the two beets were actually separated onto their own slice of bread, it was nice to be able to play the sweet and sour tones of the dish at your own pace. the soft goat cheese which acted as the binding ingredient, mostly just glued the chopped beets to the grilled bread but didn't really add all that much flavor on its own. had a good time with this dish, but just like family reunions, i'm not entirely too sure that i'm ready for another one just yet...

i wouldn't say that i HATE desserts, i just generally don't care for them that much. but this one in particular, i must profess, i would have no shame in having a love affair with... i didn't really read the whole description when i ordered this menu item. i thought i was ordering creme catalan. boy was i surprised when a creme (non)brulee DIDN'T show up at the table. instead what we got, was a peculiar fried log accompanied by a raspberry compote, thick whipped cream and an oatmeal crisp. that's actually a total injustice to what this dish actually is. as soon as your spoon breaks the mold of the "fried milk", a richly sweet and creamy custard slowly pours out of the shell. together with the tart, sugary raspberries and sweet, lusciously smooth catalan foam, this combination rivals any unparallelled ecstacy you may have encountered in your lifetime. now, if only it were legal to have a commitment ceremony joining a person with the food they loved, i'd be set for life...

This self-proclaimed "spicy Gin & Ginger Mojito" blends top shelf gin, homeade ginger beer, muddled mint, and fresh lime juice, with a splash of espionage and intrigue. This seemingly harmless drink first lures the victim with its candied ginger garnish. But then its skillfully disguised alcohol content stealthily creeps in and steals your decision making capability. Would i like a third, fourth, or fifth round? why yes, i think i WOULD like that gin gin... Although this sensationally spiced and utterly refreshing drink is currently contained within the walls of this cocktail bar, i know it's secretly on the path of world domination, taking its toll on one imbiber at a time... But I'm on to you now mixologist extraordinaire Audrey Saunders... unfortunately for me though, you've made a total mule out of me...

The ingredient combination was oddly intriguing, so i HAD to try it. and thank GOD i did. this highly creative dish was reminiscent of a walk in the woods: the rosemary added a pine forest aroma (in a good way), the olive tapenade added an earthy saltiness, the spinach added leafy tendrils, while the roasted pumpkin added a crisp sweetness. the bechamel perfectly bound all of the ingredients together, whereas a tomato-based sauce would have drowned out the highly suggestive flavors. the only thing left is to pray that someone is willing to deliver this delicious pizza to my house within the next 30 minutes or less... gosh, there's never a teleportation device around when you REALLY need one...

Yes, this little side dish, which i'd be willing to attest to in court, is the main attraction of this greek-american cafe. and WHY someone would opt to go for their award-winning french fries instead, i'm not quite sure. these highly addictive oven roasted potatoes are seemingly drenched and infused with, i suspect, lemon juice and butter and then doused with sumac. the flavor combination is just utterly tantalizing beyond description and belief. and the potatoes are just so tender that they almost melt in your mouth. but who knows and who cares what's really in it? this dish is so crazy good it should be locked up in an insane asylum, with just ME as its inmate.
