i'm sorry, but i have to disagree with the dishola rating here. i DID like the dish (and i DO like beets), but the entire dish didn't mesh well for me. The beets were good, but they were cut a bit too chunky for me and i wished the vinaigrette offered something bolder to complement the beets... and the accompanied toast with cambozola was very good on its own (albeit a bit too crunchy), but i didn't really understand why it was paired with the beets...

this stuff is SUPPOSED to be spicy i think, but it's really just sizzling sweet madness. they accidentally gave me this ground pork-loaded version once instead of the vegetarian version "Eggplant with Garlic Sauce". gotta say, i didn't mind so much cuz it still tasted great, if not BETTER... prolly from the pork i'm sure...

I'm talking about the "gnocchi of the day" really, as there isn't really a regular gnocchi dish on the menu. but it really doesn't matter what type of gnocchi they've got for the day, because it's always pillowy, always zesty, and always fantastic. it's the reason i always go back to Buenos Aires cafe...

sorry, gotta comment on this one... i think this vegetarian plate is probably really good for someone that's never had ethiopian food before. for others of us that have had authentic ethiopian food, i'd say it's just above average. not bad by any means, it's just that i've had better. i'm particularly fond of the cold lentil salad and the gomen, but the rest seem like they're holding back the flavors that they SHOULD have... and although it tastes about right, the injera bread is NOT the right color, so don't know what's up with that... besides all that, i AM happy that we at least have this place in Austin for whenever i need to settle my ethiopian food cravings...

yes, i am a vegetarian and i love going to Lambert's Downtown Barbecue. and this dish is one of the reasons why. Achiote seared chickpeas are matched with dollops of creamy goat cheese and all mixed together with roasted tomatoes, caramelized onions, and marjoram. it reminds me of a modern take on an Indian chickpea dish, which is why i think i like it so much. the only thing that bothers me with the dish is the accompanying grilled pita bread. the first time i had it, the chickpea and goat cheese mixture was served over large wedges of pita bread, which made for some difficult eating. the last time, the grilled pita was offered on the side, but was OVER-grilled. overall, i think this dish could EASILY reach dishola status, given the proper execution...
