Oh my, oh my! This is one of my all-time-favorite meals. Dunk in some crusty french bread until it cools enough to scoop up by the spoonful. Mmmmm-mmm. For the unknowing, consider crawfish to be shrimp's country cousins. (Everything is peeled. It is a little spicy.) I also love that this dish is very reasonably priced. This dish makes Pappadeaux accessible even to those on a college student budget. If you need a little extra something, the Greek salad is a lovely, crunchy counterpart.

The unsung hero of the dining world - the cafeteria. But I have to come clean and admit that this is such a great meal - the fried fish, tartar sauce on the side, and your choice of vegetables. And it is nice to actually have real vegetables as an option on your sides. Furrs does well cooking their broccoli so it is not mushy. My husband discovered their Sweet Carrot Casserole - sounded weird, was incredible good! But before you feel this is too saintly of a dining experience, you should slip some Millionare Pie onto your tray.

Many the day that The Number Twelve Beach Club came to my rescue as a new mom at home with the sweet little one. Jimmy John's delivers and their staff is typically very pleasant and very quick. The avocado sauce and the turkey are a perfect blend. I have them hold the lettuce (bane of my existence) and the cucumbers and order a side of their kettle-style BBQ chips. You can get this either on French (their bread is *very* good) or on regular sliced wheat.

Among Austin's sometimes over-hyped Mexican food restaurants Casa Chapala is the quiet sister sitting in the back. Perhaps unnoticed by many, once you try the food, you will be most pleasantly surprised. Tucked into the corner of a row of stores (near MoPac) you will be surprised once you walk in to find an expansive and lovely restaurant. The salsa is mixed to taste at your table. The staff is head and shoulders above the staff we find at other restaurants in how attentive and friendly they are. When we go with our young daughter they shower her with compliments and linger to talk about their own family. But they also serve drinks and we see parties there often (so this is not "just for the kids"). I recommend the Green Burrito (which is made with pork and named for its green sauce). The enchiladas are also tasty.

This is quirky Austin ambiance at its best with not one drop of pretention. Yes, your waiter may have holes in his Bookpeople Tshirt, but he and his colleagues will be friendly and generally attentive (given the busy nature of the diner). And the gingerbread pancakes... be glad you are seated or your knees will buckle. Divine! They always have fresh fruit options and their country potatoes are wonderful. This is the only restaurant where they not only brought our 1 year old a high chair but also toys to play with. (thoughtful) It is cash only and can be crowded during peak hours.
