Vietnamese char-grilled pork with jalapeno, cilantro, lettuce, cucumber in a toasted french bread. Can you get better food than this for less than $3? I seriously doubt it. This new mom and pop Vietnamese store just opened up in the very ethnic area of north Lamar. I've heard raves about their fresh breads and springrolls, so we decided to try it out for our weekly Sunday brunch. Hands down, the crispiest and freshest french bread in town! The crust is so crispy that flakes falls off the bread as you try to pick it up. The content of the sandwich is very fresh and accompanies teh bread very well. Seriously, to me that bread is the star of the dish. Got to finish this up and write about their spring rolls.........

Warm Crawfish & Andouille Cheesecake with Chipotle Aioli. It's a cheesecake, it's an appetizer. This is sssooooo unbelievably good. Warm melty cheese, with hearty chunks of fresh crawfish, and bits of andouile sausage. The salty and spiciness of the sausage gives it a hint to the creamy cheese and sweet crawfish. Damn it, sometimes I wish I live in New Orleans (minus the annual hurricanes).

Slow-cooked, dry-rubbed beef brisket, extra fatty cut... and pounds of it, hmmmmm. Why isn't this dish reviewed yet? How can anybody looking for a great brisket be informed of this? Oh wait... that's right, pretty much everyone have heard of Rudy's as soon as they step their toes in Austin. It's a very tender cut complete with the marbelized fat, they'll fall off your fork when you pick them up. Perfectly smoked with a crispy, charred outer skin. "Give me a quart.. no, hal... no, one pound of extra moist briskets... save the bread."

Thin egg noodles with bbq pork, crispy shrimp, fishcake, chicken, lettuce, green onions, chives in chicken stock. Very simple dish, made very right. The chewy curly egg noodles and the aromatic chicken stock reminds me of the noodle soup I'd get off a cart back in Asia. It's a very hearty and warming dish. Perfect for lunch... or post-hangover meals.

You can't come to New Orleans without having a Po'boy (or anywhere down south for that matter). And down here in the Big Easy, there ain't no better place than Parkway Bakery and Cafe. This down home, simple, and cozy corner eatery is located right in the middle of a Katrina-battered neighborhood. But the people here couldn't be friendlier. Just ask Jake, the tavern's owner, about the Before-During-After painting up on the wall. The po'boy here is LOADED! I mean sauce and oil dripping down your wrist, shreds of beef falling down, open your jaw like a great white shark, loaded. The french baguette bread is crispy as it should on the outside, and soft in the inside. The beef are so tender and cooked so well, it'll melt in your mouth. And you get all this crazy goodness for less than $7. The fried oyster po'boys are also terrific, but that's another story. Make sure you roll up your sleeves.
