Campechana at Manuel's

310 Congress Ave, Austin, TX
(512) 472-7555

This is a fantastic, light seafood dish, with poached seafood. It's different from the traditional ceviche in that the seafood is beautifully poached and mixed with pico de gallo, with lime and sliced avocado served on the side. I recommend ordering corn tortillas instead of the traditional tostadas that come with the dish. It is especially good in the summer, and if you are watching your fat/calories it is a healthy option. To make the whole thing even better, this dish is on Manuel's Appetizer menu, which means that between 4-6pm daily it is HALF PRICE, which brings it to a whopping $5.50 for a plate full of fish and shrimp.

Peanut Butter Mousse Pie at Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill

303 Red River St, Austin, TX
(512) 236-9599

This pie is unbelievable. I don't even love sweets -- give me chips and queso over cookies or cake any day. But this pie tastes like a peanut butter cup cloud -- PB mousse with peanut butter cups and an Oreo cookie crust. The slices are enormous -- truly splittable by four or five people, especially after one of the great entrees at Moonshine (may I suggest the trout?).

Calamari Fritti at Cipollina Cafe

1213 W Lynn St, Austin, TX
(512) 477-5211

This fried calamari is one of the best versions I've ever had. Light batter, tender rings of calamari, served HOT. My only contention is that the aioli sometimes looks like it's been sitting uncovered in the fridge (you know, that look that condiments get...), but it is always good and garlicky.

Chinese Hack Salad at 34th Street Cafe

Ditto on this review. Note that this salad is also on the menu at 34th Street's sister restaurant, the Blue Star Cafeteria. Yum!

Eggs Francisco at Kerbey Lane Cafe

12602 Research Blvd, Austin, TX
(512) 258-7757

This breakfast is so good! Eggs, avocado, and bacon on an open-faced English muffin smothered in Kerbey queso -- it is a wholly different take on Eggs Benedict. And it is enough to share. We order one of these with two sides of fruit and a short stack and split it all -- it's more than enough for a mid-day brunch!
