I like my food a little on the tangy side and this combo delivered. The salad: matchstick apples and grapes mixed with sharp cheddar in a buttermilk dressing. Yum! And the sandwich, actually a panini, has a buttery crust that takes the edge off the creamy avocado and horseradish filling. Yes, horseradish and buttermilk may sound like enough to curdle the stomach but the opposite is true. Turned out to be spot-on comfort fare.

There's nothing like good hot chocolate when it's cold outside, and this one was pretty damn tasty. Creamy dark chocolate, not too sweet with a kick. That kick is my only complaint - yes I wanted spicy but this burnt the back of my throat. Next time I'm going for the churro fondue. An aside - the design of the cups is fantastic!

A beet salad without blue cheese or walnuts? Finally! This appetizer featured an earthy combo of beets with truffle oil, topped with parmesan and pistachios. If I had the patience I'd try to recreate this at home, but it's oh so much easier, and probably tastier to pop into chives again. And... the restaurant is a big proponent of local farms and natural foods too. Bonus!

I saw someone posted about the frito pie at Wheatsville and it made me homesick. Not to mention hungry. Lucky for me, some pretty decent Southern fare is to be found nearby in the West Village. My usual order is the Texas Veggie Trio with a big ol' bloody mary (in a mason jar, of course), but I totally got suckered into this completely unhealthful meal by its mere mention. And I loved every single bite of it!

It's raining today in New York City, so soup was in order. Like the cozy decor of the restaurant, the soup du jour struck all the right notes. Not too sweet with a velvety texture. Que c'est délicieux !
