Part of the appeal of Hellas is the little town in general. Authentic - originally a fishing town, primarily known for sponge diving - a real Greek community. Now I know tiramisu is usually thought of as an Italian dish, but this one is pretty damn good. Not too sweet. Just the right amount of coffee taste. We were fortunate to visit on Easter's Eve, so also snagged a lovely loaf of sweet tsoureki. If you ever find yourself in the land of Mickey, make sure to take a detour towards the coast and visit Tarpon Springs.

I'm probably asking for a fight here, as we're talking New York pizza. Don't get me wrong, I love Lombardi's and Grimaldi's, but I swear I crave this pizza from Mario Batali's OTTO and must have it at least once a week. Good thing it's cheap. And for those of you who know me, I adore cheese. The more the better. This pizza has none, nor does it need it. Fresh, sweet tomato sauce accented by slivers of garlic and chiles. That's it. Oh! And the crust is impossibly thin. Love love love!

It's raining today in New York City, so soup was in order. Like the cozy decor of the restaurant, the soup du jour struck all the right notes. Not too sweet with a velvety texture. Que c'est délicieux !

I saw someone posted about the frito pie at Wheatsville and it made me homesick. Not to mention hungry. Lucky for me, some pretty decent Southern fare is to be found nearby in the West Village. My usual order is the Texas Veggie Trio with a big ol' bloody mary (in a mason jar, of course), but I totally got suckered into this completely unhealthful meal by its mere mention. And I loved every single bite of it!

A beet salad without blue cheese or walnuts? Finally! This appetizer featured an earthy combo of beets with truffle oil, topped with parmesan and pistachios. If I had the patience I'd try to recreate this at home, but it's oh so much easier, and probably tastier to pop into chives again. And... the restaurant is a big proponent of local farms and natural foods too. Bonus!
