A relatively inexpensive breakfast sandwich made with fried eggs, bacon, blue cheese (gorgonzola) and frisée lettuce -- served on a chewy Ciabatta-bread roll. This is a great Vegas find (located in the MGM Grand) -- food made from an unusual combination of quality ingredients that won't murder your budget or insult your taste buds.

The menu said "Alaskan Halibut with Buttermilk Ricotta, Bocorones, Romaine Salad, Potato Fondant & Caviar" (no price). I said, "friggin' awesome!" The check for this incredible dish (served at the bar), a half dozen oysters, one glass of wine and tip totalled out at ninety-seven bucks. I said, "ouch!" PS: I believe Bocorones are whiting -- a little fish from Spain. PPSS: I was hungry an hour later.

This was my first trip to the Aqui located in Willow Glen (listed as San Jose in directories). The salmon is served with a "crispy risotto-parmesan cake, blue lake beans, roma tomato sauce and saffron-citrus aioli" and everything on the plate was quite good. The prices are also good -- $10.79 for this special of the day. What I did not like about Aqui is the chaotic ordering system, waiting on my own table, the tables crowded against each other, and the incredible noise. It was almost impossible to carry on a conversation. I would order this dish again, but most likely as a take-out portion -- that I could eat in the quiet of my own home.

Aqui's pork enchiladas didn't taste like any other Cuban food I've experienced, but they didn't taste bad, either. Supposedly "rolled with natural pork, plantains and cheese," I couldn't taste any plantain. The achiote sauce was unexpectedly sweet, but a nice flavor combination with the rest of the ingredients including the lemony jasmine rice, sour cream and black beans.

Bacco's Mista Salad consists of seasonal baby greens tossed in housemade sun-dried tomato vinaigrette, crumbled goat cheese and toasted pine nuts. This was an exceptionally well-dressed salad -- every bite from start to finish was equally good. We dined at the bar -- without a reservation, the fastest way to eat at this popular spot -- and enjoyed every item served (as well as the interesting decor). I hope to get back to Bacco soon to experience a full dining service.
