Blue Bottle Coffee Co. in San Francisco has GREAT coffee. Shown here is a Cappuccino (with cookie). You can't go wrong with whatever you order. The smell alone is worth the price of a cup.

Delfina's 'Grilled Fresh Calamari with Warm White Bean Salad' was one of the best things I have ever tasted and something I could never cook in my own kitchen -- which makes it a MUST GO BACK FOR dish. The calamari squid-lettes were perfectly cooked (not at all rubbery) and had an intense/smokey flavor that was perfectly paired with the bland/butter-soft smoothness of the tiny white beans. When I can't sleep at night, I think about this dish, and soon drift back into a comforting and blissful slumber... (But, I wake up hungry.)

In a perfect world, every street corner in America would house a Mother's drive-up. In this imperfect world, we have to go to New Orleans to enjoy a proper breakfast. If you’re lucky, you’ll arrive at Mother’s on a slow day and get to the order counter within twenty minutes. Your reward for the wait will be a homemade biscuit stuffed full of “debris” from last night’s roast beef pan. Add a few dashes of hot sauce and you’re in breakfast heaven.

You say MÌ, I say Small Number 8; let's call the whole thing off... If I could, I'd eat this soup every day -- but only if my favorite waiters allow me to add greens to the bowl. Sometimes what arrives as an add (at an additional cost) is bok choy; sometimes it's Chinese broccoli. The Mountain View location is only one of the many Nor Cal locations of this chain.

Laura is right -- these popovers and strawberry butter (served at all Neiman's cafes) are incredible! I took my godchild for a special girls' lunch at the now-closed NM cafe in Palo Alto and the four-year-old adored them! Maybe I'll have to hit the San Francisco location next weekend ;-)
