A lovely little salad plate featuring Iowa-raised prosciutto (buttery and not overly salty) served under barely-dressed organic arugula.

The roach coach empire of El Taco de Oro now has a real restaurant in its portfolio! This is the closest food I have found in the Bay Area to that of casual restaurants in Mexico City. The Enchiladas Verdes were delicious -- full of pulled chicken meat and topped with cheese. The refried beans and rice were also very good. The decor at El Taco is basic (the cashier is housed in what might be a bullet-proof chamber) and everything is sparkly clean (in fact, you can smell spray cleaner as you enter, which isn't a plus).

Aqui's pork enchiladas didn't taste like any other Cuban food I've experienced, but they didn't taste bad, either. Supposedly "rolled with natural pork, plantains and cheese," I couldn't taste any plantain. The achiote sauce was unexpectedly sweet, but a nice flavor combination with the rest of the ingredients including the lemony jasmine rice, sour cream and black beans.

This was my first trip to the Aqui located in Willow Glen (listed as San Jose in directories). The salmon is served with a "crispy risotto-parmesan cake, blue lake beans, roma tomato sauce and saffron-citrus aioli" and everything on the plate was quite good. The prices are also good -- $10.79 for this special of the day. What I did not like about Aqui is the chaotic ordering system, waiting on my own table, the tables crowded against each other, and the incredible noise. It was almost impossible to carry on a conversation. I would order this dish again, but most likely as a take-out portion -- that I could eat in the quiet of my own home.

Exceptional salmon sashimi, served in a strip mall. This was a little pricey -- $12 for the sashimi alone -- and with the addition of rice and miso soup, the check (with tip) was close to $23. The sashimi was excellent -- but the miso was the real killer dish here. I'll go back for just a bowl of the miso on its own.
