Fresh abalone on a menu (or anywhere) is SO rare these days. As a reflection of this, Nick's abalone appetizer was a very small portion size (about three inches wide at $15), but it was HUGE on flavor! The lemony dressing on the greens was just perfect with the rich abalone flesh (breaded with panko crumbs and fried).

Not only was this one of the prettiest dishes I have ever been served, it was absolutely delicious! The pumpkin was steamed and unseasoned and you eat the skin as well as the flesh. The small shrimp were fresh and lightly wok cooked in broth -- and they were almost a garnish to the dish. The celery was the super star ingredient here -- it was peeled and cooked every so slightly so all you tasted was the pure essence of celery flesh. I had to close my eyes and just savor the flavor of the vegetable. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined usually mundane celery to be the highlight of a great meal!

Banana bread, sweet Bananas Foster kind of syrupy stuff and whipped cream = heaven! (PS: Thank you to my friends for treating me to this wonderful dinner as a celebration of my 50th Birthday!)

Not only was the presentation of this dish spectacular, the salmon was expertly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The risotto and crab were buttery and nice texture companions. This is a cute little restaurant with excellent service. My only complaint is that you have to shout at your dining companions to be heard over every other animated conversation in the room.

I can't get over how good this dish was -- and how simple. I believe it is merely leeks sauteed (roasted?) in a salty chicken broth. They are served with a HOT red pepper powder that you dip the leeks in to taste. I have to figure out how to make this and other Yunnan-style Chinese recipes at home!
