First things first...The Onion Rings are a clear 10 and they did not lie about the quality of their rolls and other bread products. We were there for lunch, which offers a limited menu. Most people (including the Bum) went straight for a buffet-ish affair which featured Meat and two sides, salad bar and dessert (it's actually a bit difficult to tell between an Indiana salad bar and dessert FYI.) My burger was an easy choice, being that it was obviously a brilliant idea that someone had around 1977 and it's managed to hang around on the menu ever since. The photo does not lie...It came with a slice of cream cheese that was easily 1/2 inch thick. The burger was properly fatty and cooked perfectly and the pumpernickel bread was the right choice.

Never has mystery cheese been so well applied to a dish! Okay, I have a fear of wedge fries because they're often under-cooked, but these were sliced right so every fry was perfection and hot as hot can be. Let's get this straight kids: There's nothing to eat in the Dells unless maybe you go to one of the resorts (and that appears to be suspect, though I'll be able to fill you in on our next visit.) This town can fuck up breakfast nine ways, so if you want to eat local and give that Beer Hangover the what-see just eat a cup or a bucket or a barrel of these (though I advise the cup to preserve the pristine nature of the `taters.)

Firstly, I'm prejudiced positively because I was actually staying in the Brown Building and the idea of being able to get really decent cocktails and food 3 floors down was hopelessly perfect. Plus, getting decent escargot in Texas is a giant F.U. to anyone who's ever been a snob about anything.

The greens, the corn, the beans and the local potato dish with cornflakes and the catfish!!! (Especially the catfish...) AND the one and only macaroni and cheese I've eaten without regret at a buffet, ever. This was my "breakfast" when I was on my way to Austin TX. And I was so sad that on my way back I was too late for dinner. No sh!t. Some of the best Southern Cooking I've had since the last time my family had me over.

There's nothing better than oysters that have been selected by experts, chilled as if it's an art form and dressed with caviar and CHAMPAGNE MIGNONETTE. Need I repeat...CHAMPAGNE MIGNONETTE. It'll cost you, but you won't have a better oyster experience in the Bayou, `cause Dickie knows his sh*t.
