As much as I love fresh cherries and cherry pie, I have never been a big fan of black forest cake. Not so now after enjoying the black forest cake at Reiny's over the weekend. It was difficult making it to dessert after the generous dinner portions, but I had to try the highly recommended cake. The layers in this cake feature a thin yellow cake, cherry filling, and chocolate cake, topped with a light whipped cream. I was surprised by the understated sweetness and lightness of the cake. A perfect ending to a wonderful meal!

The sauerbraten served at Reiny's is a generous portion of roasted beef in a mildly spiced buttermilk sauce and gravy. Sauerbraten can sometimes be overbraised but this roast is cooked just right. The vinegar flavor is not overpowering as some sauerbraten dishes I've had in the past, which is a nice change. If you like a more "sour" flavor, try the homemade red cabbage served on the side. This authentic dish also comes with your choice of homemade mashed potatoes or spaetzle, a traditional handmade noodle.

Words cannot describe this delicious soup, you have to taste to believe how incredible it is! I am a big fan of the traditional French onion soup, so I was interested to try the German version. The onions are nicely braised in butter, and the toast with melted cheese complements this zuppe very well. This soup was the perfect starter for a memorable dining experience. Don't be put off by the decor or you will miss an authentic German meal! The family cooks up old family recipes - be sure to say hello to Grandma who sits in the back of the dining room.

The Vegetarian Burger at Billy's has been both a hit and a miss in my experience. The first time I tried this meatless option, it was slightly better than average. However, on subsequent visits the patty was quite dry - whether it was from overcooking, or improper cold storage, I am not sure. After the menu prices went up awhile back, I've quit visiting Billy's on a weekly basis. The food isn't outstanding enough nor is it a good value.

I have to stick with the previous review I posted for Pad Sea-Ew from Madam Mam's Westgate - although service is not consistent within or between the two locations, the food is still top quality and consistently tasty!
